My son, the John, was down from
Pennsylvania from Friday until Tuesday afternoon and the footing on trails
near our barn had improved enough that we were able to go for our first
trail ride together in years. Maddie and Wings went out over the New
Year's holiday weekend with my husband and me up but, until now, I had
ridden Wings and Mark had been up on Maddie. John had the camera. His
horse, Maddie's older brother, Wings, being a much more stable platform!
Our jaunt took us alongside a busy road for a couple hundred yards and
then we crossed over to go down to the local subdivision streets to access
the trail. There was a bit more traffic than when we had gone out early
New Year's morning, and Maddie was quite nervous. These photos were taken
as we reached the cul de sac where we then enter the wooded trail.
To those of you who have sacrificed life and limb pulling Maddie's mane, I
PROMISE to shorten and thin it out! We were quite the ragtag pair but had
a wonderful ride. It was apparent that I could have lit up my entire house
with the electricity coming off of Maddie. She is a very different ride
than Wings, who, while a greenie himself, is a huge calm and steady horse.
Maddie is QUICK! She didn't behave badly, just was very nervous about the
traffic. She got many cookies along the way for being brave and good. I am
soooooo sore two days later! |

| Mark and I took Maddie and Wings out on
Sunday for 1 1/2 hours and had a great time. We took advantage of the mild
weather and spent a good portion of the day with the horses, riding and
doing chores around the barn.
After our ride, we turned both horses into the largest paddock, a
rare treat as we can only use it when the ground is dry enough to not get
torn up badly when the horses play.
The barn owner's dog decided to annoy us all by continuously yapping
away until Maddie put a stop to it by playing "Pound
the dog". A delightful game that she embraces whole heartedly. |
