Maddie had a busy month in June.
Mark and I trailered the horses to Manassas Battlefield National Park
where we met friends and rode the 10 mile main loop.
I had ridden there years before, competing in a judged pleasure ride, and
it was very nice to go back to the well maintained trails through the
historic woods and open fields.
With four major road crossings, Maddie got good exposure to the sight and
sound of busy traffic from a safe vantage point.
I rode Wings and led the way, so didn't notice until several miles had
gone by that Mark had forgotten to wear his brand new helmet. He was
scolded severely for the lapse!
Later in the month, our friend, Sara, came to our barn for a trail ride.
She and Maddie had a grand time jumping fallen logs in the woods just off
the trail.
We rode alongside a gravel road for a long way and had a nice canter on
the grassy shoulder. It was a beautiful day and we thoroughly enjoyed
ourselves. |
