The crazed rocket men...

There are various facts missing here, but I trust that someone will help fill them in.

Today (13 May 2000) was the day Ken Kassel went for his level two certification flight. Therefore this launch was very important and documented with abandon.

ken-o-ring.jpg (65347 bytes) Ken and certified rocket guy Tom Binford (#667 in the registry) assemble the rocket motor. Here Ken tries to determine if Morton-Thiokol made this o-ring, or if his rocket will have a successful flight. Ken and Tom decide that the ring is safe.
ken-motor.jpg (99583 bytes) Ken gets a little help shoving his rocket motor into the fuselage.
ken-pad.jpg (48919 bytes) The rocket's finally up on the pad, and Ken gives it a nervous lookover.
ken-last-check.jpg (64752 bytes) Everyone else has cleared out and Ken's still looking.
ken-launch.jpg (42515 bytes) LAUNCH! A success.
ken-recover.jpg (47343 bytes) Ken heads out into the fields to recover the rocket.
ken-recover-team.jpg (51594 bytes) They say you have a following on your certification flights, and the rest of the time you hike into the fields alone. Here are Ken's groupies.
ken-parachute.jpg (55871 bytes) And when there's a toy, kids can't pass it up.

Of course Ken wasn't the only one out that day... go see some of the others....
