This year's grand experiment: Frying Turkeys.

Ken has a big cooker, so this year he decided to do the cajun cooking thing (for fun reading check out the article on the Wall Street Journal's page).

Click on the thumbnail if you really want to see the large version:

We had a full turkey for dinner, but bought a breast for the experiment. mvc-672f.jpg (83022 bytes) mvc-673f.jpg (73879 bytes) Since the breast doesn't fit on the skewer we just threw it in, the traditional way.
The pot started bubbling immediately. mvc-674f.jpg (75058 bytes) mvc-675f.jpg (57474 bytes) And kept bubbling vigorously.
Carefully monitoring the temperature is critical. mvc-676f.jpg (69051 bytes) mvc-677f.jpg (96105 bytes) As is drinking lots of beer.
Finally (20 minutes), the finished product. mvc-680f.jpg (94702 bytes) mvc-682f.jpg (109089 bytes) The burnt spot is where the turkey rested on the bottom of the pot. The meat was not burnt at all.
Now that we finished with the toys it was back to the big jobs. mvc-683f.jpg (77005 bytes) mvc-684f.jpg (70964 bytes) The turkey is carefully lowered... not thrown in like the breast.
The hook didn't want to come off, exposing Ken to... mvc-685f.jpg (59370 bytes) mvc-688f.jpg (57805 bytes) ...the boiling oil.
Note that Ken is gone for the rest of the pictures. He had to find burn ointment. mvc-687f.jpg (93699 bytes) mvc-690f.jpg (80380 bytes) After 35 minutes the turkey was cooked.
Another perfect bird. mvc-691f.jpg (69093 bytes) mvc-692f.jpg (101228 bytes) Suitable for movie-making.
