Everyone’s favorite rooftop cottage in the East Village, which recently sold for a mere $4.4 million (we would’ve paid more, honestly) started burning down at around 3:50 this afternoon.

There’s no word if anyone has been harmed, but luckily it seems as though the FDNY now has the fire under control. We’re unsure of the extent of the damage and therefore the fate and future of our beloved cottage in the sky. We hope it, the building’s residents, and the firefighters are all okay. It’s one of New York’s weirdest and weirdly aspirational homes — up there with “The Gingerbread House” in Brooklyn. Here’s to hoping everyone is safe. And so is this magical rooftop cottage.
