Everyone’s favorite rooftop cottage in the East Village, which recently sold for a mere $4.4 million (we would’ve paid more, honestly) started burning down at around 3:50 this afternoon.

There’s no word if anyone has been harmed, but luckily it seems as though the FDNY now has the fire under control. We’re unsure of the extent of the damage and therefore the fate and future of our beloved cottage in the sky. We hope it, the building’s residents, and the firefighters are all okay. It’s one of New York’s weirdest and weirdly aspirational homes — up there with “The Gingerbread House” in Brooklyn. Here’s to hoping everyone is safe. And so is this magical rooftop cottage.
Update: No injuries have been reported. More info below:

Never seen anything like this. Fire in the east village in the building next door. These firemen are so brave; seeing them work so hard to keep people safe (people they know and people they’ve never met or ever will meet) was incredibly inspiring. Thank you, FDNY. So much respect. It’s very sad about the apartment but I think they have the fire contained now. #FDNY #fire #eastvillage A photo posted by Blonde Maze (@anamanda) on
